2012 RAV4 EV

Next-generation Toyota RAV4 EV? That's right. The forthcoming 2012 model, isn't the first RAV4 EV ever made. The RAV4 EV story actually starts 16 years ago in 1995, when Toyota introduced the first prototype, and claimed a victory, at the Scandinavian Electric Rally Car Rally.

Later that same year, Toyota, placed the RAV4 EV prototype at institutions around the state of California. The following year, in 1996, Toyota launched the first stage of its zero-emission vehicle test program, featuring two-door RAV4 EV prototypes. They also debuted the RAV4 EV at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

In 1997, the first-generation Toyota RAV4 EV was available exclusively to fleet consumers. Four years later, it was available to the general public residing in the Golden State. In 2003, production paused. Why? It was ahead of its time. There wasn't the avid interest in EVs then. But, there certainly is now. And, for all of you interested in the next-gen RAV4 EV, you'll be happy to know that recent reports claiming the EV will only be available to fleet and car-share program buyers are inaccurate.

Toyota has confirmed mass-market availability of the new 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV in a recent press release. "We'd like to set the record straight," the Japanese automaker says. "The 2012 RAV4 EV will definitely be sold to the general public."1

Toyota of Wallingford would like to note that in addition to the 2012 RAV4 EV, Toyota will also be launching the all-new Scion iQ EV based on the Toyota iQ available in Japan, in 2012. The funkier-looking Scion EV, however, will be available exclusively to fleet and car share buyers.

To learn more about the next-gen Toyota RAV4 EV, boasting a 100-mile max driving range, contact Toyota of Wallingford today. And be sure to stay tuned for more Toyota news, coming soon.

The Toyota Prius may be the best-selling hybrid in America. But, it isn't exactly known for its aggressive performance. However, that's about to change.

While they'll continue to offer Prius drivers the peace of mind that comes with superb mileage and low emissions, Toyota is adding an available PLUS Performance package (featuring components from the  new PLUS hybrid performance line) to the 2011 model. Toyota explains, "PLUS is an evolution of hybrid design, where fuel-efficiency co-exists with aggressive styling and performance handling."1

The part  of Toyota's apt explanation Toyota of Wallingford would like to highlight is "co-exist". This indicates the package embodies both Toyota core values: Eco and Advanced Technology. So, while the PLUS Performance package makes the Prius faster and more exciting to drive, it remains true to its eco-friendly heritage, continuing to offer industry-leading fuel efficiency...a win, win, if you ask us.

Over the past few months the topic of the next-generation Toyota Yaris, which debuted in Japan early this year, has filtered into a deafening silence. Don't worry! It's still in the works.

See, the problem isn't with the Yaris itself. It's simply that Toyota has been so busy playing catch up after the record-breaking earthquake and tsunami on March 11 that they've had their priorities focused elsewhere... specifically with resuming normal production levels.

Happily, Toyota is getting their feet back under them, eyeing the return to normal operations in the near future. And, feeling less like they're running on a treadmill, they've once again resumed talk of the new Toyota Yaris.

According to Don Esmond, Senior VP Auto Operations, Toyota the next-generation Toyota Yaris will hit dealerships (i.e., Toyota of Wallingford) by the end of 2011. Toyota's ultimate plan for the new Yaris is, of course, to put it on level playing ground with the most popular subcompacts available... a very savvy move, considering U.S. consumers are more frequently opting for smaller more eco-friendly, fuel-efficient cars.

Toyota has released few specs surrounding the forthcoming Yaris at this time. But, we expect more details soon and promise you'll be among the first we tell as soon as we learn more.

We can tell you that the next-generation Toyota Yaris will likely be based on the same platform, and hold the same engine, as its predecessor. Areas targeted for change are the subcompact's aesthetics (interior and exterior) and technological comfort and convenience features.

There is the slight possibility that Toyota might introduce a hybrid-electric variant of the Yaris as well. That's the plan for Japanese markets at least, where the Yaris is known as the Vitz. But, don't hold your breath. No Yaris electric-hybrid variant has been confirmed for the states yet. But, we're certainly keeping our fingers crossed.

Stay tuned for more details surrounding the next-generation Toyota Yaris, coming soon. To learn more about the 2011 Toyota Yaris currently available at Toyota of Wallingford in Wallingford, CT. We're happy to share specs, compare models, and arrange test drives.

People were starting to get a little worried over Toyota's four-month silence, following the March 11th earthquake and tsunami. Happily, the Japanese automaker is approaching the return to full production levels, and they've started talking "new" again... a sure sign that things are looking up.

What do we mean by "talking 'new'"? "New" both in regards to models and technologies...When an automaker is launching a lot of newness, and keeping discussions of innovation active, it's a good sign that their bound for sustained success.

The newness Toyota has in store for us is comprised of a diverse array of offerings aimed at satisfying all different driver's needs and preferences. This fall, they're planning to release the Prius V minivan, next-generation Camry and Camry Hybrid...and Scion iQ. Scion, for those of you not familiar with the brand, is Toyota's youthful, edgier arm).

Later, towards the end of the year, Toyota will launch the next-generation Toyota Yaris. You may have previously read about this. And, looking ahead to next year, they'll introduce two additional Prii models, the C and Plug-In, RAV4 EV, and other to-be-announced models and technologies.

The forthcoming new models, we'd like to focus on right now, however, are the next-generation Toyota Camry and Toyota Camry Hybrid. Again, we expect them to hit Toyota of Wallingford's showroom this fall.  While few details surrounding the Camry models have been released and/or confirmed at this time, we do know the two refreshed models promise drivers leading-edge technology features, a modern design, enhanced performance, cushier ride and more refined handling.

Stay tuned to learn more about the new Toyota Camry, new Toyota Camry Hybrid, and other imminent Toyota models. Toyota of Wallingford is here to keep you informed.  In the mean time, you can always visit our 2011 Toyota Camry inventory online, or in person at

Toyota Prius v Details

We knew Toyota was designing the jovial-looking Prius v for active families aiming to reduce their dependency on gasoline and make their hectic lives more convenient. What we didn't know were the specifics. Until now...

As the name suggests, the new 2012 Toyota Prius v seats five people. However, "v" also connotes the friendly family hauler's versatility. Thanks to a 60/40 split rear bench and fold-flat front passenger seat, the latest Prius offers four different seat configurations, perfect for accommodating your varying needs.

Plus, behind the rear hatch door lies approximately 34 cubic feet of storage space! According to Bob Carter, Group Vice President and General Manager, the Prius v has "more cargo space than 80% of small SUVs."1 This makes it perfect for toting anything from groceries to coolers to sporting equipment.

In recognizing families can be as messy as they are fun, Toyota took special care to help owners keep it looking like new for many years to come. The hybrid's synthetic SofTex upholstery, for example, offers the convenience of stain resistance and the fashionable look and feel of rich leather.

2012 Toyota Prius Safety and Convenience Features

-    Push-button start
-    Seven standard airbags
-    Rear-view camera
-    Four Driving Modes: Normal, Power, Eco, and EV
-    Hands-free calling via Bluetooth
-    Six high-performance speakers
-    6.1-inch screen - fully integrates with iPhones, and serves to manage audio and video files and host Toyota's new infotainment system, Entune

Perhaps the biggest benefit to the 2012 Toyota Prius v, however, is its extreme fuel efficiency. Specially engineered with a rear-wheel-drive system built around a 1.8-liter, 98-hp, four-cylinder mill, it's estimated to burn only 5.35L/100km (1.41gal/62mi) on the highway and 5.88L/100km (1.55gal/62mi) in the city.

Interested in getting to know the 2012 Prius v, even better? Call Toyota of Wallingford today.  As for an ETA, we expect it to arrive stateside, starting fall 2011.

A New Social Network Exclusive to Toyota Owners

In cooperation with Microsoft and San Francisco-based Salesforce.com, Toyota is developing their very own, exclusive social networking site. Called "Toyota Friend", it's specially designed to allow drivers to interact with their cars as they would one of the hundreds of social networking sites popping up left and right.

Still in the developmental phase, "Toyota Friend" was recently demonstrated in a Tokyo showroom, where onlookers watched an owner of a plug-in Prius received a message from his hybrid, named "Pre-boy", telling him to charge his car overnight. After the driver followed the advisement, the Prius responded, "The charge will be complete by 2:15 a.m. Is that OK? See you tomorrow."1

Herbie or Christine, anyone? Anyone? Only Toyota isn't anthropomorphizing cars in fiction. They're doing it in real life... in a manner far friendlier than in Christine, of course.

In addition to charge-time reminders, "Toyota Friend" will offer the value and convenience of inspection reminders. First, "Toyota Friend" will send you a notification that your vehicle is due for an inspection. Immediately following it will link to a dealer to set up an appointment.

Toyota drivers who decide to use "Toyota Friend" once it is launched can decide to keep their exchanges with their car private or share them with other "Toyota Friend" users on Facebook, Twitter, and other similar social networking sites.

Right now, "Toyota Friend" it's slated to hit Japan first in 2012 and later worldwide. Initially, it will be an option only with electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
