Toyota Hydrogen Concept Reaches Detroit

In recent years we have seen Toyota make huge strides in the advancement of automotive technology. For example, let's take a look at the Toyota Prius - the very first mass produced hybrid gas and electric vehicle. Not only is this vehicle a top seller in the US, but across the world!  From the dealer lots at Toyota of Wallingford in Wallingford, CT to dealerships across the country, the Toyota Prius is one of the most demanded vehicles of all time.

At 2012's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Toyota took the next step in the "green movement" with their all new Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV).

Officially dubbed as the Toyota FCV-R, the concept only caught a few glimpses at 2012 NAIAS. Toyota has been keeping relatively quiet about this new vehicle, since a production model is not yet available. Their hope to really impress the public once a production car is ready.

The FCV-R (FCV- Fuel Cell Vehicle, R for "Reality and Revolution") is significant because "it reminds us that Toyota is still planning to field a hydrogen-powered car by 2015."1

Toyota started the trend with the Prius, and was followed by a plethora of other brands later. While some auto makers have tried bringing Hydrogen-powered cars to the public, they have not had very much success. Right now, Hydrogen powered cars are not nearly as as popular as hybrid gas / electric cars. Once Toyota releases their FCV to the general public, we anticipate this to change rather quickly!

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments about the FCV-R or other 2012 Toyota cars for sale, feel free to call us during normal business hours at 800-952-0950. You can also fill out a comment form, or submit your thoughts below! From everybody at Toyota of Wallingford, we hope to see you soon.

Toyota Releases Teaser Video for NS4 Plug-In Hybrid

We here at Toyota Of Wallingford have got to hand it to Toyota. The Japanese automaker sure knows how to tease a big reveal without giving all the juicy details away. The company recently released a video to hype up the unveiling of the all-new Toyota NS4 Plug-In Hybrid, and we simply cannot get enough of it!

The video in question features a futuristic vibe, while showing off close-up shots of the NS4. Without flat-out showing off the vehicle in its entirety, Toyota is able to convey the fact that this is a hybrid with a bit of an edge. This is further confirmed by the teaser image that was recently released too. It shows the front hood and headlight of the NS4 with a sleek chrome slat that flows quite nicely with the front-end as a whole.

Of course, Toyota revealed nothing about what the NS4 will pack under the hood. For some speculation, we can turn to the soon-to-be-released Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid. It packs a 1.8-liter, 98-hp, inline-four engine with a 80-hp electric motor under the hood. That said, we want to know what you think... Will the Toyota NS4 feature a similar powertrain to the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid? Or will Toyota opt for a bit more performance in this latest plug-in hybrid? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

In the end, we all know that whether or not the NS4 features more ponies under the hood is secondary to its fuel economy. No matter what aspect of this exciting new Toyota model you're keeping an eye on, make sure to stay tuned for more information on it as it becomes available. After all, Toyota Of Wallingford, located at 859 North Colony Rd, Wallingford, CT is dedicated to keeping you informed!

Toyota has a Breakthrough in Ethanol Production

Toyota has already brought us many hybrid variants of Toyota Prius available at Toyota Of Wallingford, located at 859 North Colony Rd, Wallingford CT. But they are only starting with electric - they want to be remembered for more advancements in fuel consumption.

The auto maker is looking into a better ethanol. New yeast being developed that will more efficiently ferments xylose, sugar produced when plant fibers break down, basically creating a super fuel.

This newly developed yeast produces the highest ethanol fermentation level known to human kind, and is capable of improving bio-fuel quality while also reducing production costs. Plans to perfect this ethanol, along with making ethanol a widely available commodity, are set to be completed by 2020.

The Toyota Biotechnology and Afforestation Laboratory is also developing a "cool-spot creation technology" for simulating the cooling effects of shade created by trees to be used in cars.1

2012 RAV4 EV

Next-generation Toyota RAV4 EV? That's right. The forthcoming 2012 model, isn't the first RAV4 EV ever made. The RAV4 EV story actually starts 16 years ago in 1995, when Toyota introduced the first prototype, and claimed a victory, at the Scandinavian Electric Rally Car Rally.

Later that same year, Toyota, placed the RAV4 EV prototype at institutions around the state of California. The following year, in 1996, Toyota launched the first stage of its zero-emission vehicle test program, featuring two-door RAV4 EV prototypes. They also debuted the RAV4 EV at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

In 1997, the first-generation Toyota RAV4 EV was available exclusively to fleet consumers. Four years later, it was available to the general public residing in the Golden State. In 2003, production paused. Why? It was ahead of its time. There wasn't the avid interest in EVs then. But, there certainly is now. And, for all of you interested in the next-gen RAV4 EV, you'll be happy to know that recent reports claiming the EV will only be available to fleet and car-share program buyers are inaccurate.

Toyota has confirmed mass-market availability of the new 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV in a recent press release. "We'd like to set the record straight," the Japanese automaker says. "The 2012 RAV4 EV will definitely be sold to the general public."1

Toyota of Wallingford would like to note that in addition to the 2012 RAV4 EV, Toyota will also be launching the all-new Scion iQ EV based on the Toyota iQ available in Japan, in 2012. The funkier-looking Scion EV, however, will be available exclusively to fleet and car share buyers.

The Toyota Prius may be the best-selling hybrid in America. But, it isn't exactly known for its aggressive performance. However, that's about to change.

Toyota explains, "PLUS is an evolution of hybrid design, where fuel-efficiency co-exists with aggressive styling and performance handling."1

The part  of Toyota's apt explanation Toyota of Wallingford would like to highlight is "co-exist". This indicates the package embodies both Toyota core values: Eco and Advanced Technology. The third milestone in the last six months Prius, worldwide sales topped the two million mark in October 2010, and Toyota's award-winning hybrid beat Japan's all-time domestic sales record for any vehicle with sales of 315,669 units.

First introduced in Japan in 1997, and on sale in Europe and US for more than a decade, Prius has the highest brand awareness of any hybrid vehicle. Three generations of Prius have not only seen significant improvements to successive evolutions of its Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain, but also a marked change in customer perceptions of full hybrid technology.

Remember back to 2008 when Toyota promised to display a CNG-electric hybrid Camry at the Las Angeles Auto Show? Irv Miller, Vice President Toyota Motor Sales' U.S. division said, "With this concept, we are confirming our interest in pursuing CNG [natural gas]."1

Despite Miller's strong proclamation of intent, it's hard to recall much news about Toyota's pursuit of CNG, since 2008. Perhaps the topic has been pushed out of the media's sight and minds by the company's poster child, the Prius. It certainly doesn't mean that Toyota shelved their plans.

Recent reports indicate that Toyota Motor Corp.'s North American engineering and manufacturing operations has made a deal with Constellation Energy, employing the firm to manage its natural gas needs. This proves the automaker is continuing to pursue CNG with more intensity than ever.

Among the many areas Constellation Energy is expected to handle for Toyota are natural gas supply, risk management, hedging, budget analysis, energy market monitoring. The Baltimore-based company will also be responsible for monitoring relevant regulatory and legislative issues for the Japanese automaker. More specifically, they're expected to provide risk management services to 14 Toyota facilities, and supply natural gas to nine different Toyota sites throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

The plural of Toyota Prius has sparked debate starting with the launch of the first vehicle, nearly 10 years ago. However, when Toyota decided to grow its Prius range, the dilemma became more urgent. To resolve the issue, Toyota invited the general public to vote online for a plural reference. While Priuses, Prium, and Prien were among the terms included in the 1.8 million votes, Prii took the majority.

Speaking on the open online vote, Colin Morisaki, Advertising Manager, Toyota said, "Community has always been a big part of the Prius brand, so it was only fitting we invite the online communities to participate in the plural discussion. The people have spoken - Prii will be the accepted term used to describe multiple Prius vehicles going forward."1 Making the decision even more final, Dictionary.com has updated their entry of Prius with Prii online.

Among the Prii joining the original Toyota Prius, are: the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (PHV), Prius v and Prius c concept. The Japanese automaker hopes to further grow adoption of the Pius brand by expanding their selection of vehicles that maintain the lineups' core values: impressive fuel economy, low emissions, proven gas-electric technology, and environmental stewardship.

If you are interested to learn more about current or forthcoming Prius models, please contact Toyota of Wallingford. We're happy to share specs with you and/or schedule a test drive.

Toyota Prius With 62 MPG Target

Toyota now says its Prius can do 62 mpg.

Jim Colon, Toyota vice president for product communication, made this announcement last week:  "Whatever goal [the Obama administration] establishes, Toyota will be prepared to meet. If it's 62 miles a gallon, we'll be able to achieve that." Mr. Colon added the new rules "excite" Toyota, and the company is "already going in that direction."

According to Auto News: "Martha Voss, another Toyota spokeswoman, said which a carmaker was not endorsing a 62 mpg aim, adding which Toyota considers it too early to pinpoint the figure until studies suggest more information as well as other factors have been considered."

Toyota is a the beginning of a long battle - almost every other auto maker either already has or is coming out with a hybrid version of one of their cars. One Korean auto maker has stated all of their vehicles will reach 5o miles per gallon minimum by 2025 - hybrid or not.

But Toyota is going at it alone - members of the auto lobbying group, the Alliance for Automobile Manufacturers, attacked House of Reps leadership on the feasibility of meeting a 62 mpg target - they feel it is unfair to the American auto industry.

With Toyota, anything (even a 62 mile per gallon exclamation) is possible.

Experience Prius today at Toyota of Wallingford.
