Production shutdowns in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami on March 11th has not slowed down the popularity of Toyota Prius, available at Toyota of Wallingford.

The third milestone in the last six months Prius, worldwide sales topped the two million mark in October 2010, and Toyota's award-winning hybrid beat Japan's all-time domestic sales record for any vehicle with sales of 315,669 units.

On a global scale Prius sales remain consistently strong at more than 2,100,000, of which European sales account for more than 200,000 units. And total Toyota hybrid vehicle sales now exceed three million units worldwide.

First introduced in Japan in 1997, and on sale in Europe and US for more than a decade, Prius has the highest brand awareness of any hybrid vehicle. Three generations of Prius have not only seen significant improvements to successive evolutions of its Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain, but also a marked change in customer perceptions of full hybrid technology.

Toyota will not only continue to produce the Prius gas electric hybrid, but by the beginning of next year, Toyota will introduce a Prius plug-in hybrid to the mass market.

Starting in 2012, Toyota hopes to have a full line-up of Prius vehicles, making it a stand alone brand connected to Toyota.

Toyota of Wallingford, a leading dealer for Wallingford Prius fans, would like to announce the impending arrival of the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In.  The Prius is a tremendous model, offering drivers some of the best hybrid options available.  A benchmark vehicle in its class, the Toyota Prius continues to impress Toyota shoppers and industry insiders alike. With an array of well-equipped trims to choose from and outstanding fuel efficiency it's hard not to be in awe of the 2011 Prius.

The Prius has been an uncompromised "full" hybrid since its introduction. This means it can run on the gasoline engine alone, battery alone, or a combination of both. The Hybrid Synergy Drive was completely re-engineered for the third-generation Prius, with lighter, more efficient components.

Wallingford Prius shoppers will also be excited to learn that the Prius's overall fuel economy is impressive. Using a combination of technologies, Toyota increased fuel efficiency for the new Prius to an EPA estimated 51mpg in the city, 48mpg on the highway, and a combined average of 50mpg.

With the new plug-in hybrid vehicle, the 2012 Prius will make an even bigger splash.  plug-in.  A hybrid car is similar to a conventional hybrid vehicle-both use a gasoline engine as well as an electric motor. However, a plug-in hybrid uses larger battery packs that can be recharged by connecting to common 120-volt household electricity or 220 volts from a dryer outlet or special installation. Plug-in hybrids can be driven for long distances-from a few miles to as much as 60 miles-without using any gasoline.

Plug-in hybrids, like the 2012 Toyota Prius available for Wallingford Prius fans, provide most of the benefits of an electric car, while maintaining the same driving range as conventional vehicles--eliminating so-called "range anxiety' about plug-in cars. Plug-in hybrid drivers may travel in an all-electric mode for the vast majority of common local driving. When the battery's electric charge is depleted, a downsized gas engine powers the car until the next opportunity to plug in and recharge the batteries.

Plug-in hybrid cars, available at Toyota of Wallingford, are also known as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles or PHEVs. Plug-in hybrid cars that use a gas engine exclusively for recharging batteries-rather than directly powering the wheels-are also called Extended-Range Electric Vehicles or EREVs or plug-in series hybrids.

The 2012 Toyota Prius offers all of the great features customers expect with the Prius but the 2012 Plug-In model offers tremendous green technology and unheard of efficiency.  For more information about the 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In or any other vehicle at Toyota of Wallingford, please call 800-952-0950 or visit http://www.wow-toyota.com.

A dealer and automaker can tout their brand all they want, but when a trusted-third party recognizes the value of a car manufacturer or their models, people always take more notice. That might be why so many prospective car buyers are increasingly turning their attention toward the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Sienna, and Toyota Prius. Consumer Reports magazine recently awarded each of these cars with the following titles of distinction:

-    RAV4 (Recreational Active Vehicle four-wheel drive) - "Best Value Small SUV"
-    Prius hybrid - "Top Green Car" (for the eighth consecutive year)
-    Sienna minivan - "Best Family Hauler"

In addition, Consumer Reports indicates that Toyota leads all other automakers with 20 recommended vehicles out of 26 tested. This serves not only to bolster the automaker's present prestige but confirms previous awards the company has earned, enhancing their overall rapport for excellence.

"These latest accolades join the impressive list of awards and recognitions received in recent weeks, giving Toyota an exceptionally strong start to 2011," says Adel Ezzet. "The fact that Toyota is totally dominating the awards season shows the high esteem in which the brand is held by auto industry experts and analysts, which in turn reflects the confidence and trust of consumers throughout the world." Ezzet also attributes the outstanding success of the RAV4, in particular, to the fact that it "combines the benefits of a fuel efficient car with the comfort and spacious interior of a SUV, offering the perfect blend between power, fuel economy, quality, and safety"2
